Congressman King: September 11th Blood Drive Collects 70 Pints
October 14, 2009
Congressman Pete King is pleased to report that the 3rd annual September 11th blood drive held at his Massapequa Park District Office was a complete success, collecting 70 pints of blood.
"The blood drive was a great way to encourage people to perform one special deed on September 11th as a way to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day," Congressman King stated. "I want to thank everyone who participated in this worthwhile endeavor and I look forward to hosting this event again next year on September 11th, 2010."
Congressman King encourages people everywhere to set aside time every September 11th to perform a special deed of their choice to help others in need.
In the three years since the blood drive was established over 165 pints of blood have been collected.
According to Congressman King, the Long Island region suffers from a shortage of local blood donors, as only 2% of the region's population donates blood each year, compared to the national average of 5%. The blood drive was administered by Long Island Blood Services.
