Homeland Republicans Demand Hearing, Classified Brief on Transfer of GTMO Detainees to Illinois Maximum-Security Prison
Urge Chairman Bennie G. Thompson to Convene Briefing and Hearing Before Congress Adjourns

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security and all 12 Committee on Homeland Security Republicans sent a letter to Chairman Bennie G. Thompson, demanding both a classified briefing and a full Committee hearing on the Obama Administration’s decision to import Guantanamo Bay detainees to Thomson Correctional Center, a state maximum-security prison in Thomson, Illinois.
In the letter to Chairman Thompson, Homeland Security Republicans said that the role of the Department of Homeland Security is, “clear and integral,” and “demands immediate oversight action by the Committee to allow its Members to obtain critical information on the Administration’s plans and related security implications.”
