Iran
Iran poses a grave threat not only to Israel and the Middle East, but also to the United States and the entire globe. It is a state sponsor of terror that continues to violate United Nations Security Council Resolutions in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. That is something we cannot allow, and therefore we must work with our allies and use all means necessary to prevent Iran from achieving that goal.
These are some of the bills I have endorsed:
- H.R. 1208—Iran Threat Reduction Act—This bill strengthens existing legislation to sanction persons aiding and facilitating nonproliferation activities by the Government of Iran.
- H.R. 1327—Iran Sanctions Enabling Act—This bill authorizes state and local governments to direct divestiture from, and prevent investment in, companies with investments of $20,000,000 or more in Iran's energy sector.
- H. Con. Res. 362—This resolution expresses the sense of Congress regarding the threat posed to international peace and stability in the Middle East, and the vital national security interests of the United States by Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and regional hegemony (110th Congress).
- H.R. 1400—Iran Counter-Proliferation Act—This legislation tightens sanctions previously imposed and imposes new sanctions on Iran to make it clear that its efforts to develop nuclear weapons is unacceptable. On 9/25/07 H.R. 1400 passed the House (110th Congress).
- On 9/28/06 I voted for the Iran Freedom Support Act (H.R. 6198) and two days later President Bush signed this measure into law (P.L. 109-293). This legislation would permanently extend penalties on companies that invest in Iran's energy sector and would provide assistance to pro-democracy forces in Iran (109th Congress).
