WASHINGTON - Today, the Amityville Fire Department received $61,261 in funds for operations and safety. The funds were granted through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) Program, which grants funds to fire departments across the nation so that they can meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of their communities.

“I’d like to send my congratulations to the Amityville Fire Department,” said Rep. Pete King. “I am proud of their dedication and am pleased to have played a role in the authorization of the program that has granted them funding.”

The AFG Program began in 2001 so that firefighters and first responders can obtain necessary equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and firefighters. For fiscal year 2005, Congress reauthorized the Assistance to Firefighters Grants for an additional 5 years through 2010.
