WASHINGTON – Today the Appropriations Committee announced that it has approved Rep. Peter King’s request for $900,000 for the City of Glen Cove for ferry terminal engineering and construction. Once completed, Glen Cove’s fast boat ferry will bring commuters and tourists to and from Long Island and New York City’s Financial District.

“Given the budget constraints currently facing Congress, securing these funds is a victory for the City of Glen Cove,” said King. “I made funding for this project a priority, and am pleased that my request was honored.”

The ferry service is part of Glen Cove’s plans for waterfront development and revitalization. Once completed, the ferry will have the potential to transport up to 1,600 passengers each day, remove 48,000 commuter vehicles from the road, and decrease 1.2 million pounds of carbon dioxide greenhouse gases a year.

“I am proud to support Mayor Suozzi’s plans for revitalization, especially one like the ferry, which will help boost the economy through tourism, while reducing congestion to promote a cleaner environment. It’s a win-win situation.”
