Massapequa Park, New York – Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) is pleased to report that the 2nd annual September 11th blood drive held at his Massapequa Park District Office was a complete success, collecting 56 pints of blood.
“The blood drive was a great way to encourage people to perform one special deed on September 11th as a way to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day,” Congressman King stated. “I want to thank everyone who participated in this worthwhile endeavor and I look forward to hosting this event again next year on September 11th, 2009.”
In his continuing effort to establish September 11th as a national day of voluntary service, charity and good deeds, Congressman King encourages people everywhere to set aside time every September 11th to perform a special deed of their choice to help others in need.
According to Congressman King, the Long Island region suffers from a shortage of local blood donors, as only 2% of the region’s population donates blood each year, compared to the national average of 5%. The blood drive was administered by Long Island Blood Services.
The Congressman’s blood drive has collected almost 100 pints of critically needed blood in its first two year’s of existence.
