Rep. Pete King Announces Port Security Grant for Suffolk County
October 2, 2009
As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee and member of the Intelligence Committee, I know that the New York-Long Island region is the number one terrorist target in the country and how essential it is that all our police departments work together and be prepared to carry out their part in the war against terrorism.
The Suffolk County Police Department has done an outstanding job of confronting the challenges of the post 9/11 world, as well as continuing its first rate job of protecting Suffolk County day in and day out. This is why I was pleased to be able to help the Suffolk County Police Department obtain a $130,632 Homeland Security grant for its Marine Bureau. This funding will be used to provide state-of-the-art surveillance systems as well as survival suits for search and rescue operations.
The Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau is an integral component of our regional homeland security apparatus. I am proud to work with these brave and dedicated police officers as they do their job to protect us.
Congressman Pete King, County Executive Steve Levy and Police Commissioner Richard Dormer announced that the Suffolk Police Marine Bureau has been awarded a $130,632 homeland security grant to install state-of-the-art surveillance systems and provide rescue suits for search and rescue operations
